MU Match
by Scott Fortier

This application is designed to aid in setting the 28 CV’s that make up your decoders speed table so that to you may match various locomotives speeds to one another.

How it Works:

The program calculates each locomotives approximate speed curve by using the timing information you provide on your locomotives performance at set throttle points.

Once each locomotive is entered, the program determines which locomotive is the slowest and calculates the difference to determine the speed table values for an exact match at 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% throttle. A linear equation is then used to calculate the values between each of these data points.

What you’ll need:

Timing Track:

In order to match the locomotives speeds, each locomotive will need to be timed at various throttle settings on the same length of track. This track may be a segment or full lap of your layout, a separate circle or oval of track, or a long straight way.
Stop Watch:

A stop watch or other such accurate timing device.

Time your locomotives:

Time how long it takes for each of your locomotives travel your timing track at 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% throttle settings and record the time in seconds.
